Another White Christmas in N. Texas

Image
Looks like we got another white Christmas!  The last one we had was a few years ago, but I still enjoy it each & every time. Here are some pics. Be Blessed!

12/21/2012

So, it's here... Looks like we made it! I personally don't believe the Mayan prediction was referring to the end of the world per se, but rather the end of the way some of the things operate in this world. For example: *The school massacre causes a new beginning to gun laws. *Talks of U.S. Fiscal cliff, which could be the beginning of the end of U.S. Dollar & beginning of new money system. So, those are just a couple of things to think about. Be Blessed!

Somber Saturday

Somber Saturday As we toss & turn And struggle to sleep the night before Parents of the slain Will find it hard to sleep forevermore For this somber Saturday Will linger amongst hearts like never before Let us remain prayerful On this somber Saturday Let’s keep the faith During this time I pray for their minds As such a tragedy as this Calls for intercessory time ~ K.R. Heavy Heart

En Lieu of the tragic Connecticut Elementary School massacre, I wrote a poem. Heavy Heart Feels like a ton of bricks It makes me sick To see a tragedy like this Dear God minds need to be fixed Hearts need mending On You we need to get back to depending For this world is on its way to a treacherous ending But if we invite you in again It could be the start of a new beginning With a heavy heart We ask for a new start Touch our hearts Heal our minds With a heavy heart Our souls ache And hands shake All in wake Of this savage slaughter With a heavy heart Tears have fallen Parents are distraught For that day will forever be thought As a nation brought Down on its knees ~ K.R. Brumfield 12/16/2012      My heart was so heavy on the day I found out about the tragedy. I was at work on the phone when I saw a posting on Twitter by Anderson Cooper. Thankfully I was on hold at the time, because tears began to flow and I got cho

Things Aren't What They Seem

So, I've opted in to receive email updates of news and events from one of our Dallas Radio stations, 94.5. Today, I received an email informing me that Beyonce` has just signed a $50 Million dollar deal with Pepsi! My immediate reaction was....WOW!!!      Then I thought about something else. If Pepsi, NFL, NBA, as well as other entertainment and corporate entities can afford to pay celebrities this kind of money, then why is America in a so-called "Economic Crisis"?      That's because I don't believe we really are in such a crisis. I'm not buying into all the hype. I think its just a ploy to keep our minds thinking a certain way or to keep us ignorant to certain things.      Now back to this email update I received...      Me and a friend of mine got to discussing this email/article, and came to the conclusion that this is ridiculous. We both agreed that this additional money is not a necessity for Beyonce`. Then my friend made the statement, "

Shift in the Atmosphere

I know its been a minute since my last post, but every now and then I take a break from the whole "internet/social media" scene. This allows me to redirect my focus on other things, as I do not want to be overly consumed by the issues of this world. Sometimes we all need to just take a step back, evaluate, meditate, and do whatever it takes to allow room for growth in our lives. So, that's exactly what I did... While I was away...I've noticed a shift in the atmosphere. Things are changing. Roles are changing. Genres, views, and classes are changing. Most definitely, things are changing in the spiritual realm....and just in case y'all didn't already know this, God is always up to something. He's always working things out behind the scenes on our behalf. So you ask the question, what does all this have to do with a "Shift in the Atmosphere"? Well, to answer that question, let's put it this way... Is it me or have you also noticed that fa

You Are A Star!

Genesis 22:17-18 says this... "In blessing I will bless you and in multiplying I will multiply your descendants like the stars of the heavens and like the sand on the seashore. And your Seed (Heir) will possess the gate of His enemies, And in your Seed [Christ] shall all the nations of the earth be blessed and [by Him] bless themselves, because you have heard and obeyed My voice." It's a conversation God had with Abraham. It's a scripture that's near and dear to my heart, and I'm starting to think this is why I love beaches, water, and gazing up at the stars so much....because of the Divine Connection between my forefather (Abraham) and God. I truly believe that many of us are of that bloodline, and in believing that, we should carry ourselves or at least try to walk in the spirit of excellence. Not to say that we're all perfect, because Lord knows we're not, but to at least try to do what's right and to live our lives to the fullest! If we are

Getaway!

So...my baby and I drove to Beaumont, TX for his 20th Class Reunion about two weeks ago. We had a great time. I met his old high school friends and his mom. They're good peeps. There were so many people at the dance that night. We danced, laughed, and had a great time. They played songs from the 90's that made me think back to my high school days...wondering if L.W. Higgins will be having a reunion for the Class of 1995. Hmmm??? So, after the reunion, we drove down to Galveston, rode the ferry, and walked along the beach. It was hot, yet breezy. We definitely needed to just getaway. Sometimes, getting away from it all is all we need. It can provide such tranquility, a peace of mind, and relaxation. So, for those who are just discovering my blog page...here's an FYI: I love to travel and see/experience new things. So, you'll see plenty of pictures posted and talked about on my blog page. Can't wait to share all my great getaways with you all. While in Galveston,

Provision

With any Preparation there has to be Provision. This morning I woke up giving thanks to God for allowing me to see another day. Then I searched for a little inspiration to start my day. I was lead to Joshua 1: 8-11. It pretty much talks about being successful and preparing yourself for provision. With my personal relationship with the Lord, He always uses various ways to show me glimpses of what I can have. I'm not just talking about material things, but a sound, peace of mind as well. So, He's been showing me & placing in my spirit that this is my Season. This is my Season of Change, Shift, Blessings, Love, Overflow, Prosperity. I have to make the necessary Preparations for the Provision. I must be ready. I AM ready! Are you? Miracles, Blessings, Love! K.R. Brumfield

Never Underestimate the Power of a Praying AND Fasting Woman!

I hate to see or hear of anyone struggling, especially when they're putting forth as much effort as possible. So many times it seems as though when we try to take two steps forward, we're knocked back four. On the contrary, the key word there is "seems". Just because things "seem" to look a certain way, doesn't mean they actually are. For as Christians, we are to walk by faith and not by sight. I know at times this may be hard, but it is very much possible; which leads me to my Blog title: "Never Underestimate the Power of a Praying AND Fasting Woman". When things "seem" to take a wrong turn or "seem" not to work in our favor, that's just a small indication that breakthrough is just around the corner. So, instead of giving up or giving in...I decided to hold on and fight! When I talked to my mother last week, she informed me of all the things my brother was going through. He had been struggling and under attack by the e

"BIG MOUTH"

The other night I was watching the story of Whodini (Old-School Rap Group) on TvOne's show called Unsung , and I had a flashback. It made me think of one of my older cousins, and how he would sing one of Whodini's song to me: "You got a Big Mouth...a Big Mouth...Big Mouth...Big Mouth...You're mouth almighty, tongue everlasting..." That's because as a child, I talked, and talked, and talked...until I got a little older and got tired of people calling me "Polly" or "Pollyana" or told over and over that I talked too much. So, somewhere or at some point over the years, I just shut down. I stopped talking as much. Then it seemed as though I got extremely quiet and just started writing more. I had to learn to rechannel my thoughts and verbal expressions. Anyhow...I thought the segment on Whodini was okay. I gotta' say that I don't blame Jalil for making the decision he made to ride out Jive Records, because too many Record Labels try to g

Chapter 1: Girl Talk Tanya started asking Kevin questions because she felt as if something was going on; maybe there was another woman in his life. That would explain why he would never be home whenever she would call. His excuse for that was that he would be chillin ' with his boys. Now this so-called excuse was starting to make Tanya jealous, because she felt as though he was starting to put his boys before her. Being the naive person that she was, she began to believe any and every thing that Kevin would tell her. Yes, no doubt, she was definitely sprung! Tanya began to do something that she said she was not only going to do since the first time he lied to her. She was going to trust Kevin. She started believing his excuses for where he would be or what he would be doing, which were really lies. She believed him all the times he said he loved her and wanted to make her his wife. The messed-up part about that was how he would bring Tanya around his family and also discuss marria

Mardi Gras 2012

Image
So, I went home for Mardi Gras. I had a great time. I hadn't been to a parade in years. Mardi Gras just hasn't been the same since I was a kid. It used to be more of a Family-Friendly environment, but nowadays there's potential violence. Nevertheless, there were no fights or shootings in the area we were in. When I say we, I mean my mother, two of my aunts, an uncle, three cousins, and myself. We went to Zulu & truck parades. The music and smell of food being grilled in the air was quite nostalgic. It made me think of all the great times as a child when the whole family used to go on down to Napoleon & Claiborne Ave. every year for Mardi Gras. That changed as we all got older and as the crime rate increased in New Orleans. The marching bands rolled on through with their trumpets and horns blaring and drums banging. The Zulu "Tramps", as they were originally called, pranced right along with their Afro wigs, grass skirts, and painted faces. The floats were v

An Angel Soars!

Whitney Houston dead at the tender age of 48. When I got the call from my cousin Danielle, the first thing she said to me was, "I'm just going to get straight to the point. Whitney Houston has died." I was like, "What?!!! Are you serious?" She said, "Girl yes!!! Danny just called me and told me it's on CNN right now!" All I could do at the time was hold my mouth open, say OMG!, and turn on the TV to CNN. What really touches my heart the most is how so many talented people generally have to suffer so much. Nevertheless, the Bible does indeed say, "To whom much is given, much is required." I say that to say this...Anyone who is in the limelight will always be just that, in the limelight. Their lives will truly be scrutinized. When they're in the public eye, it's as if they no longer have their regular lives anymore. They can't just go to the store as they used to before they came famous, which is really sad. Here's something

State of the Union

So last night was President Obama's State of the Union Address. I thought he covered a lot of great points. Healthcare Reform Clean Energy Fairness across the board (Rich & Poor should have same opportunities) Teamwork makes the dream work Education Immigration Reform Jobs/Economic Recovery I especially love how he wants the wealthy 1% to start paying more taxes. That just never made sense to me how wealthy individuals could get more tax breaks than the hard working, struggling middle-class people. We're the ones who need help the most, not the ones who already have wealth & numerous resources to create more wealth for themselves. I also agree with more jobs and businesses being created right here in America; because simply put, the more we outsource, the more we'll fall economically. Whatever happened to: "MADE IN USA"? We depend on other countries too much for things that can be created right here. I also believe that everyone should have a right to a go

'Red Tails' Sting Like Scorpions

Historical Background: WWII was a war between U.S. and Germany. This was the time of Hitler's Socialism or Nazi regime. During this war, of course there was tremendous segregation. Sad to say, segregation not only took precedence in civilian life, but military life as well. Blacks were allowed in the military, but could not engage in any real combat. And so the Revolutionary innovation began... The Tuskegee Airmen stepped on the scene and changed the game! This group was a force to be reckoned with. In the movie, 'Red Tails', Col. Bullard (played by Terrence Howard) fought with everything in him to get his crew the opportunity to show and prove that they're just as good, if not better, as the white fighter pilots. He was persistent, stern, held his ground, and was finally given the go-ahead for his team to "assist" some white flight bombers. Cast: Terrence Howard (Col. Bullard) Cuba Gooding Jr. (Major Stance) Ne-Yo (Smoky the Musician/Comedian) David Oyelowo (
