Sideline or End Zone? Which Are You?

Are you a sideline chic or an end zone queen? If you ever notice, the people standing along the sidelines are just waiting for their turn to get in the game or just wishing they’d get called to play. If you look at the anxiousness or disappointment in their faces, then you’d understand where I’m going with this. That’s the same look of anxiousness or disappointment of sideline chics when they’re waiting on a dude to call them back after they’ve given up the cookies too soon. That’s the same look of disappointment of a sideline chic that has to wait for the dude to finish playing with his other chics to make time for you. The sideline chic has to sit back and wait for sloppy seconds. Sometimes she may have to watch as her dude treats the end zone queen like the royal highness she wishes he’d treat her. The sideline chic hardly ever gets to spend holidays with her dude. If she does, it’ll be later that evening or night. The end zone queen is the one he runs to or seeks after. Sh

When You See Me

What do you see? What do you perceive? When you look at me? Is it confidence or conceit? Don’t get it twisted! I’ve been gifted With this radiance With this glow So when you see me I’m just lettin’ it show…. When you see me I’ma let my light shine ‘Cause you just don’t know What I had to do Just to make it through And the seeds I had to sow For this smile of mine to grow For this beauty of mine to show So when you see me I’ma be shining Like a true diamond Holdin’ my head up Struttin’ my stuff!

Much Thanks!

Well Thanksgiving has come and gone, and I have so much to be thankful for. I got the chance to spend time with my family in Louisiana. My nephew is getting taller...he's so cute! He's running around getting into everything. He's also singing nursery rhimes now, like Row, row, row ya' boat and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. His little face just lights up when he starts singing. I'm just thankful that I have the opportunity to spend time with family members whenever I can. There are many people who can't really say that because they may be separated by miles and miles or oceans from each other. Studies have also shown that the holidays are usually the time of year when most people are depressed. Maybe because this is usually the time of year when they miss their lost loved ones the most. That's why I titled this "Much Thanks", because we all need to give much thanks! So many of us take life for granted thinking that we will have time later to mend b

Yes We Did!!!

Throughout the end of last year and all of this year I’d been speaking of New Beginnings. This truly has been a year of New Beginnings. The number 8 represents or symbolizes “New Beginnings”. Isn’t it ironic how Barack Obama was campaigning for Presidency in the same year of “New Beginnings”? He could’ve easily chosen to run in the previous election, but in actuality his time was now. I believe that God has a time, season, or purpose for everything, and this was Barack’s time to run the race and finish like a champion. During his campaign, Barack’s slogan was. “Yes We Can”. I want to put a strong emphasis on the word “We”, because Abraham Lincoln said it best; “This nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom ...and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth”. Lincoln was talking about all of us. We are the people! We are the people who not only kept the faith and believed that we could, but we did it! We chose, or el

"Lincoln Heights" Tragedy

I am just devastated! I can't believe "Johnny Nightingale" is no longer on the show! It was just so suddenly! His character had a lot going for himself. He was very smart....and I like him and Lizzy's chemistry together. When Eddie walked into the girls' room with that look on his face right after he talked to the DA to grant Reuben immunity, I just knew the news was going to be something bad about Reuben. Who knew that something like this was going to happen. I at least thought Johnny would get the chance to win Lizzy back from the other dude she dumped him for. Now I know she's going to start feeling guilty b/c she didn't get the chance to express how much she truly cared for him. Whomever wrote this episode....I am so disappointed!!!! They could've at least put the boy in a coma...not just kill him off so suddenly!

Blue Monday

Today was just like every other Monday.... Blue I don't like Mondays because they get here so fast and its off to work again.... Unless of course you've been blessed with the opportunity to be fully self-employed. I'd love to be able to sleep in late on a Monday morning if I don't get to bed early enough on Sunday night, but hey....its cool. I'll be fine. I made it through another day. I was so tired today. I think the overtime is starting to take its toll on my body, because I can go to bed early one night & still be tired the next morning. Today I was dragging, but I managed to survive Blue Monday.

Shouting Tantrum!

You said to ask and we'll receive! You said to only believe! Well I've asked, believed, prayed, fasted, shut-in, AND worked my faith! Still nothing! You said, "Faith without works is dead"! Well I understand that means "Faith with works is very much alive"! So, if my faith is alive, then by all means bring every other area in my life ALIVE! This is crazy! I'm waiting on you... You're waiting on me... Something has to give! Someone has to make a move! I'm doing the best I can with what I've got! Still waiting for that day of ultimate Freedom! To hell with this Modern Day Slavery! You said in your word, "He who the son sets free is free indeed"! Why do we as humans still tend to feel in bondage? I am not only having a shouting tantrum for myself! But I am crying outward and inward for all others who are waiting to be released from this Modern Day Slavery! We want Freedom! Freedom to explore the beautiful Earth you've blessed us wi

The Family That Preys

Tyler Perry is doing the darn thang !! This movie is awesome!! I know it just came out on Sept. 12 th but I can't wait for it to come out on DVD! My cousin and I went to see it on opening night. We couldn't stop laughing at the character Ben, which is Tyler Perry's role in the movie. We laughed because he looked so much like my cousin with that uneven a fro , green T-shirt and zip-up jacket! hahahaha .....and he had the nerve to be tall and husky just like my cousin. Oh my goodness...I'm laughing again just thinking about it!! I must say that the character that Rockmund Dunbar played was very naive and foolish!!! So many people in the movie theater just wanted to slap some sense into him. When you see the movie you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. I kept saying to myself...he is sooooo Blind!! He needs to read my book Blinded . There were too many signs right in front of his face. Taraji Hensen's character was the typical down-to-eart

From Epidemic to Extinction: HIV/AIDS Amongst African-Americans

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), "African-Americans account for about half (49%) of the people who get HIV and AIDS". The CDC website also states, "Blacks with AIDS often don't live as long as people of other races and ethnic groups with AIDS". Enough is enough! Looking at these statistics made me think about extinction. Now Webster's Dictionary defines extinction as "The process of eliminating or reducing a conditioned response by not reinforcing it". Let's think about this definition for a minute or rephrase it. Extinction is a way to wipe out or destroy a certain species' way of thinking, survival, or existence. Referring to the later part of the definition, I got another revelation after reading it a few times. It made me think about how at one time the structure of the African-American family was very strong and important. I thought about how prevalent the fathers were back in the day. It was

Bernie Mac & Isaac Hayes: Gone but Not Forgotten

Ok, I'm just going to sit here and recollect on my most memorable things about Bernie & Isaac. I will always remember this line, "Jang-a-lang...Jang-a-lang...my name Jang-a-lang". He just cracked me up in the movie Life . I also loved when he stepped forward to say...."I...I...I the pappy". Everyone will most remember Bernie for two things: Kings of Comedy & The Bernie Mac Show. He truly started something with..."Milk & Cooooookies". It's like now whenever you hear someone even speak about "Milk & Coooookies", one would automatically know exactly what the speaker is referring to. His performances were just amazing...hahahaha (just got a visual of him rolling his eyes while telling one of his jokes on Kings of Comedy)! He will be missed! Isaac Hayes.....I really only remember three things about him: 1.) Shaft 2.) South Park 3.) I'm Gonna' Get You Sucka' but these three were definit

Prom 2008: Trendy or Flimsy?

What is really going on with this generation today? Have they lost their minds?! I do not understand how high school staff & parents allow these students to wear such inappropriate things to prom!! Please explain to me how one gets away with wearing a jogging suit & tennis shoes to a prom? How does one get away with wearing dresses revealing your belly or showing off too much cleavage or wearing so-called "booty shorts"? I'm sure many of you saw the excerpt on CNN news a while back about the high school student in the gold dress that was turned away from her prom because of her dress. I was listening to a radio show that same day, and quite a few high school students were calling in saying how embarrassed they were for the girl in the dress. When I was in high school (which wasn't that long ago), students would be turned around & sent home if they were to show up in something too revealing or inappropriate! I understand that every teenager wants to be dif

Observations of Talk Show Taping

Observations from Audience Perspective: 1. Waiting! Waiting! & more waiting! 2. Taping did not start on time 3. Audience was 100% black 4. Snacks were provided (empty calorie / all junk food) Chips Sodas Water ( Not in Bottle form) / self-serve from water cooler (what if it was tap water? What if many audience members do not drink tap water?) Candy (Chocolate candy bars, twizzlers, mints, etc...) (What if audience members preferred not to eat junk food?) What if we're actually being taped while waiting? (waited for about an hour and a half before beginning the actual taping of the show) Observations from Talk Show Crew's Perspective: 1. Let's see how many black folk show up on time. 2. Let's see how many of them become irate after waiting so long. 3. Let's see how black folk interact with one another in a controlled environment. 4. Let's feed the monkeys bananas ( no other fruit was served ). 5. Let's see how many choose water over soda.
