Company Christmas Party

Image
Yay!!! Christmas is upon us! This is my favorite Holiday. It is the celebration of our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ's birth! I love Christmas, because it is a time of giving & sharing. It's also a time to be full of joy! So, I went to a Christmas Party on Friday, December 16, 2011. It was really nice & whimsical, the decorations that is. My co-workers and I danced, laughed, ate, and took pictures. Yep, Indeed I said "danced". lol.... I know that's not something I talk about much, because I don't do much dancing. Truth be told...I'm not very good at it. However, on the night of the Christmas Party, I decided to just let lose and enjoy myself to the fullest! With that being said, check out one of my pictures taken just outside of the party. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! ~K.R. Brumfield

Basketball is Back!

Yay!!! The NBA Lockout is officially over!! On one hand, I'm happy... On the other, not so much. That's because two of my favorite players could possibly be traded to the Lakers! I am not a Lakers fan at all!! Yes, Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets, and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic may be getting traded! Although these are not my only two favorite players, I still think they should've been traded to other teams. The Lakers already have Cocky Kobe! When I heard this news, I was heated to the point of needing to turn on my fan. Oh well, life goes on, right? So, I'll just go ahead and continue to root for the underdogs: Dallas Mavericks.

2nd Annual Black Girls Rock

So tonight was the 2nd Annual Black Girls Rock Award Ceremony on BET. It was amazing! They honored Taraji P. Henson, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Tatyana Ali, Angela Davis, and many more. Regina King and Tracy Ellis Ross did a wonderful job of hosting the show. On another note...Man Regina look like she be in the gym like 7 days a week! All those muscles were just bulging out, OMG!!! However, her and Tracy definitely rocked it! Here are some of the performers: Erykah Badu, Melanie Fiona (loved her shoes!!), Estelle, Jill Scott (loved the outfit!!), Mary Mary (that blue dress was too much for a Gospel singer, or am I the only one who thought it was a bit over the top or too revealing?), and Mrs. Isaacs a.k.a. the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul and R&B a.k.a. Mary J. Blige closed out the ceremony with two songs: "My Life" and "Just Fine". I gotta say that Mary J's outfit was off the chain!!! That blue blouse with the puffy sleeves, black fitting pants to show off her curves,

2nd Annual Family Harvest Party

Image
On Friday, October 28, 2011 we had our 2nd Annual Family Harvest Party here in Dallas. It is a tradition we started last year, because we want to try to instill family values into the kids. Since we (myself & cousins) were kids, we have always loved family get-togethers. So, why not instill those same values into the kids? It will teach them how to love, share, and be unified, especially in times of need. We also wanted to start this tradition as an alternative to Trick-or-Treating for Halloween, as Halloween is not the same nowadays. It has become much too dangerous...actually from a Christian standpoint, looking at the history of Halloween, its quite evil. So, we decided to show the kids how they can still have a good time without door to door Trick-or-Treating. We decided to call it a Harvest Party because indeed this is the season for harvest. It is a season to be thankful for many blessings, as well as think back on all the seeds that we have sown throughout the year, which wi

Party Planning

So, I spent the weekend of October 22, 2011 shopping for decorations for our 2nd Annual Family Harvest Party. Since most of us family members here in Dallas love to get together and do things collectively, we thought it'd be a great idea to start a family tradition so we can instill some family values into the kids, you know, the next generation coming up behind us. I was able to find some hanging Fall, decorative leaves and pumpkins. I also found the perfect florals at Michael's Craft Store to create a Fall Themed Centerpiece. I'll have to upload some pictures after the party. I also found a cute door wreath and confetti to sprinkle around the tables. My cousin found a Pumpkin Patch not too far away from Dallas. So, we'll take all the kids to the Pumpkin Patch on Saturday. Here's the plan: Friday night, everyone will show up at my place. We'll laugh, play games, listen to music, watch Charlie Brown & the Great Pumpkin Patch, and eat popcorn and other snacks

Lordy, Lordy, She's 50!

Image
Yep, my cousin turned 50 on October 6th. The Big 5-0! So, we went home to New Orleans for the weekend (Oct. 7-9, 2011) for a Family get together. We had a great time. We had barbecue ribs, barbecue chicken, barbecue hamburgers, jambalaya, red beans & rice, potato salad, deviled eggs, baked macaroni & cheese, and of course Birthday Cake! We laughed, reminisced, ate, danced, and joked around. If you all have not noticed by now...I am very BIG on Family! When we get together, we just have a blast! Although, I miss the days when I was a little girl living with my Great-Grandparents, and the entire family would come over and we'd play Bingo (For Money)! It was $.25 per Bingo card. usually my Great-Grandfather or my little cousin would win. There would be so many of us all throughout the house. My Great-Grandfather, Gramp, would yell all the way from his bedroom: "Man gone!" That was his way of yelling, "Bingo!" We would all just laugh at first, and then get m

Praying for Troy Davis & Family

I went to sleep last night and woke up this morning with tears in my eyes; not just for Troy Davis, but because my heart is so heavy for all humans that have suffered and continue to suffer and be affected by our injust judicial system here in America. This story goes to show that there indeed still is racism in America, because why else would the Georgia parole/pardon board go through with the execution knowing there's so much reasonable doubt? I'm not an attorney, nor do I work in the judicial system, but I know what's right and unjust. Situations like Troy's case is what really has me more concerned for all Black men in general, because more often than not, they're being railroaded in the system. Yes, I care about Black women being railroaded as well, but they're not railroaded as much as the men. I remember when the movie " American Violet " hit the movie theaters, and I guess some cities were concerned that a riot would break out, because unfortun

New Beginnings

We are fastly approaching a new year, and I am definitely ready for New Beginnings. I declare that 2012 is my year for Change! It's going to be a year full of great changes! You know, sometimes we have to speak into our own lives..."speak those things that be not as though they were". So, as I embark upon my season of New Beginnings, I will be utilizing the power my tongue (speaking life), of visualization, and creativity. On another note... My first magazine appearance was posted in the August issue of Epitome Gospel Magazine. I shared my testimony in hopes of it inspiring others and reaching whomever needs freedom from bondage and condemnation. For more information on the magazine or where to purchase your copy of the August issue, go to their website: http://www.epitomemagazine.org/ I must admit that I was rather excited when I saw the 2-page posting of my testimony. Excited because the testimony is what inspired me to write my first novel Blinded , and it is w

A Tribe Called Quest: Documentary

I took a stroll down "memory lane" today. I went to see the documentary on the Old School Hip-Hop group, A Tribe Called Quest. It was amazing! Micahel Rapaport did a wonderful job with this. I always wondered whatever happened to this group, as well as many other artists from the 80's and 90's. A Tribe Called Quest wasn't just a National group. They were INTERNATIONAL, well known all over the world. They paved the way for many artists today. If it were not for Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Jarobi, and Ali, then there'd be no Kanye West, Common, Ludacris, Roots, etc... Just like Run DMC, Whodini, Grand Master Flash, Sugar Hill Gang, and all of them paved the way for A Tribe Called Quest, they paved the way for today's artists. Unfortunately, Hip-Hop has taken a whole different direction from its original form. Original Hip-Hop was all about bringing awareness and social consciousness to the community. It was about love, unity, and dancing. Now, it's more about mat

Keep Moving, Shake it Off, Stay Focused!

Today's message was right on time! Bishop T.D. Jakes preached "Keep Moving, Shake it Off, and Stay Focused!" This message is right on time with the adjustments I'm making in my life, which includes: stop caring so much, stop putting others before myself, stop wasting energy on unnecessary things or people. Bishop also mentioned the fact that some of us have so much to give, but are the receivers ready to receive or handle it. I myself have so much to give, so now I'm making adjustments as to who and when I give it. Here are some valuable notes I jotted down from the message today: Wisdom doesn't boast about being wise. Wisdom doesn't have to prove anything. How you react to things determines if you are a pretender or truly wise. Situations we go "through" only bring us "to" our diving purpose. You MUST have a sense of purpose or Mission! I have flaws, but HE sent me! I'm not perfect, but HE created me! The Spirit of Disagreement is

NBA Lockout?!! Say it Ain't So...

Although I would love to "Say it ain't so", but unfortunately it is so. First the NFL, now the NBA. What is going on? In the words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?" I say that in the sense that the players and the leagues need to get along. They need to come to an agreement. I'm really not a huge fan of the NFL, because I can't tolerate such brutal and dangerous moves on the field. I know it's a contact sport, but I still can't bare to watch someone's child, husband, or father endure such pain, injuries, and God forbid paralysis! I cringe just looking at two players colliding. Now Basketball, I can watch that anytime. The jumpshots, 3-pointers, slams, rebounds, turnovers, etc... I'm usually all in the game yelling and screaming: "Stay on him!" or I'll throw my hands up when a player from one of my favorite teams fails to pass the ball to another teammate whose clearly wide open to make the shot! Just in c

True Believers

Well I'm still here. Does that mean I wasn't truly saved? Was I "Left Behind"? Wow! I cannot believe how so many people are so easily influenced or led astray; but then again... I CAN believe it; because I do believe that we are living in the last days. I know these words have been said for many years. However, true Christians or true believers know that it's too easy for the end to just happen when someone "prophesies" it. True believers know the Word for themselves, and don't need a leader to tell them when Christ shall return, thus putting an end to this physical world. True believers know that "He comes like a thief in the night. No man knows the hour or the day of Christ's return". Although the world has not ended on Saturday, May 21, 2011, I do believe that this stirring up , if you will, is still part of End Time prophesy. I believe this to be so, because it's in the Word. The Bible speaks of the Gospel being preached all acr

Sore Losers

Webster's Dictionary defines "sore" as angry, irked... Well, that's exactly what the Lakers must've been feeling for the last 4 games in the Playoffs; because Artest & Bynum definitely expressed their feelings like the usual "sore" loser would, by taking their anger or frustration out on the other team. I simply look at it as an expression of Newton's Law of Gravity : What goes up, must come down. At some point, the Lakers' dynasty had to come falling down. Personally, I believe that the Los Angeles Lakers are a good team; however, ever since some of their players became arrogant, I could no longer tolerate them. Again, he who exalts himself shall be humbled; and he who humbles himself shall be exalted. The Lakers were definitely involuntarily humbled by the beat-down from the Dallas Mavericks, and the Mavs were exalted! Other than Lakers fans, who wants to see the same team win the NBA Championship over & over? It's simply time fo

Premature Boastfulness?

"Ding dong the man is dead!" That's what so many Americans are shouting right now about Osama bin Laden. I personally feel as though it's too early to be "boasting" & rejoicing in his death. Yes, my heart goes out to the 09/'11 victims' family; however, the death of Osama bin Laden will not bring them back, nor will his death put an end to terrorism completely. When I heard the news, I didn't jump on the band-wagon to quickly rejoice like so many of my fellow Americans. Instead, I immediately said to myself: "Oh my God!" I said this because deep down I thought...what's next? These were my next thoughts: 1.) Is he really dead? 2.) Is this just plan B, or another one of bin Laden's plans to distract us so he can carry out another plan of attack? 3.) bin Laden & his regime are trained with a mindset of martyrdom & hatred for the U.S., so even if he is truly dead... there will be others to continue on with this min

R.I.P. Jordan M. Scott, Sr. (Gramp)

I received a phone call around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011 from one of my cousins. She said, "So I guess you heard the news, huh?" I asked, "What news?" That's when she told me... Gramp died. He had died in the hospital. My Great-Grandfather was 99 years old, just 3 months and 12 days shy of his 100th birthday! I went home to New Orleans for the funeral, Saturday, February 12, 2011. The funeral service was nice. It was definitely a "Celebration of Life". After the service, there was a Second Line March in his honor. We marched from the church to his house, then to the cemetery for the burial. Of course we'll all miss him, but we can't be too sad because Gramp has lived a long, fulfilling life. May he rest in peace with his wife Virginia Scott, also known as Big Mommie, who died in 1987.

Martin Luther King Holiday

Image
Well today is considered the National Holiday to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I just wanted to take a brief moment to say that I am truly grateful and appreciative for all that he has done...not only for Black people, but for ALL people. His dream wasn't just about Black people, but for "Blacks, Whites, Jews & Gentiles" to come together and be FREE to work, live, and play as God's children. I remember going to the Civil Rights Museum in Alabama with my good friend in 2009. It was very interesting, educational, yet touching. You can see me standing in front of one of Dr. King's quotes: "...Until Justice Rolls Down Like Waters and Righteousness Like a Mighty Stream". We can't thank you enough Dr. King. May you rest in peace.
