God's Appointed Time (Testimonial) P1

***This post is specially made for those who are truly interested in hearing and rejoicing in one of my many Testimonies! Part 1: When one of my FB (Facebook) friends commented on a previous post stating that they'd love to hear my Testimony, I immediately though to myself..."hmmm, which one should I share?  Where would I even begin?" That's only because life has definitely been a journey for me.  So, instead of giving my entire life Testimony or going in chronological order, I've decided to start this Testimonial off with something that's more relevant to my recent Social Media postings regarding my Breaking News. BREAKING NEWS!!! ***I am NOW, as of 11/23/2013, 19 weeks and 4 days pregnant*** Yep, PREGNANT!  I couldn't believe it either when my doctor showed me the results.  All I could do at that moment was say "Wow! Really? Pregnant?" Then I sat there looking at the paper with the results and Diagnosis code, with my mouth wide open.

Interpretation

Image
Today I had a thought and decided to elaborate on it. Have you ever received an email, text, letter, or participated in a conversation, and then later on you discovered that you or the other person(s) involved misinterpreted the whole communication? In your mind, you though you were being clear, concise, and to the point. However, in the other person's mind, they thought you meant something totally different. What makes one person interpret a message one way, while the other interprets the same message differently? I think the answer to that is simple. Everyone interprets information differently. Some people's brainwaves function on a vague level, whereas others operate on a more detailed level. Let me explain further... Some people can only grasp and/or process smaller pieces of a puzzle before seeing the big picture; while others initially look at the bigger picture and work their way down to the smaller pieces. Case in point:   If someone requests you to complete

Betty's Birthday Bash

Image
My family planned a Surprise 70th Birthday Bash for my Aunt, Betty on July 27, 2013.  It was held at the Double Tree Hotel in Kenner, La., which is located near the New Orleans International Airport. So many family members went out of their way to make the necessary preparations. Throughout all the chaos and running around to make sure everything went on without a hitch, we still managed to pull it off and have a great time! While in New Orleans for the event, I stayed at my mom's house, and my brother drove down from Baton Rouge. As you will see in the video footage, I took quite a bit of pictures. We had a blast! Hope you guys enjoy this snippet of the party. Continuous Blessings, K.R. Brumfield

Qu'ality Appreciation for Natural Beauty

Image
On Tuesday, July 9, 2013, I had the opportunity to speak with a Multi-talented artist that goes by the name of Qu’ality .   He created such a beautifully appreciative song about us Natural-haired Sistahs! It is now considered by many to be the Natural Hair Anthem.   Because of the lyrical content, I couldn't agree more; which is why I had to reach out to him to express gratitude and thanks, as well as find out more about the artist so I could share with everyone I know who cares as much about Natural Beauty as I do. I can truly say that Qu’ality is such a humble, talented artist with endless career possibilities. If you have not seen the video or heard the song, then here is the link. Check it out:             So, without further ado, here are the details from the interview: Keedy:    What’s the inspiration behind this single, NA-TU-RAL ? Qu'ality: Mom, sisters. That’s the most YOU that you can be. That’s how I like my women. K.:

Dark Girls Rise! (P2)

Image
07/07/2013 Part 2: There was a segment within the Documentary called Men: on Women . It was basically the Black man’s perspective on dating Black women. Now this was interesting! One light-skinned guy stated that he didn’t like dark-skinned women because they looked funny next to him. I thought to myself, really dude? That’s the answer you’re going to go with? That’s your justification for NOT dating a dark-skinned woman? That only proves my point that most men are shallow-minded when it comes to women. In this case, all the guy seemed to care about were a woman’s outward appearance. For people who think like this are only limiting themselves, and could be missing out on a lifetime partner. Dark Girls , the Documentary, also mentioned the affect media has on the portrayal or perception of Black women. No one in the media is teaching young men how to value a woman despite her light or dark skin. I think it all boils down to a person’s preference when it comes to dat

Black Music Month - Reminisce

So, June is considered "Black Music Month". With that being acknowledged, I thought I'd do a post on my love and appreciation for what I like to call REAL music. I can recall as a child when my aunt Debbie would be playing her records of Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, and Michael Jackson, among others. That was the beginning of a beautiful adoration and appreciation for music. Remembering Stevie with those braids and beads and listening to his music only mad my heart beat even stronger, for his music always touched my heart and just made you want to grow up to be a person who truly cared about something. I don't think I'll ever forget Lionel Richie's video for "All Night Long", when the people were dancing the night away, and those Caribbean melodies just made it that more soothing and dance-friendly. Of course there's Michael Jackson...at the time, who didn't like Michael? I also remember the girls from school drooling and smiling as th

Dark Girls Rise!

Dark Girls Rise! 06/26/2013 K.R. Brumfield Part 1:      On Sunday, June 23, 2013, the Documentary Dark Girls premiered on OWN ( Oprah Winfrey Network ). It’s a Documentary about the negative images, low self-esteem, and colorism amongst Black women and the African-American Community. The Documentary is directed by Bill Duke & D. Channsin Berry, presented by Duke Media & Urban Winter Entertainment .      Basically, I’d like to share aspects of the Documentary with you by touching on specific comments or interviews and adding my opinion. ***********************      I believe this Documentary is a much needed tool within the Black Community, as this topic is not discussed enough, which leads to further miscommunication, degradation, and ignorance amongst us all.  Dark Girls , the Documentary, was very educational.  It touched on subject matter such as our history as a people, colorism & colonization, and how it impacts not only African-American

Salon Experience

On Friday, May 24, 2013, I had my first Salon Experience since I've been natural. I decided to go to a professional to get my hair colored, shampooed, conditioned, blow dried, flat ironed, and trimmed. I can't recall the last time I visited a hair salon. Keep in mind, I've been natural since February 13, 2010. The stylist was very friendly, and made my experience rather enjoyable. I was so pleased with the results, that I will definitely be going back. Also, just an FYI...I allowed the wind and humidity to blow my hair all over the place when I went to the beach, which is what I anticipated anyway. So, of course now my hair is on its way to reverting back to its natural curly/kinky state. Nevertheless, I had a ball at the beach and DO NOT regret letting my hair blow in the wind. At least I now know the true length of my hair, and can see how healthy it is. This Salon Experience has also allowed me to see the progress of my Natural Hair journey, how much it has grown.

Beach Life

My Sweetie and I went to Galveston Beach on Saturday, May 25, 2013, and we had a blast! For those who did not know, the beach is my all time favorite place to be. I have said it many times...there's just something about water and me. It's so therapeutic, tranquil, and relaxing. Just to hear the sound of the waves crush against the sand and the sea gulls flying around sends me to a place beyond bliss. The weatherman predicted a 30% chance of rain in Galveston, TX on that day. Although there were a few dark clouds, it did not rain. Also, the dark clouds eventually went away. At first we were a little skeptical about going because of the weather forecast, but decided to go anyway. Once we arrived, we were so elated with our decision to move forward with our plans. The wind was amazing! No sweating for us... We truly enjoyed our strolls along the beach, along with a few drinks on the balcony of our hotel room. Although there was a mishap with our hotel reservations, everything

Mocha Monday!

Happy Mocha Monday...on this Earth Day, April 22, 2013. What are you striving for? What goals are you trying to reach? Have you changed your mentality from what you don't have to focusing on what you're grateful for? So many times we rise in the morning thinking, "oh boy, another day another dollar." Or..."I don't feel like going to work today." Well, we are the only ones who can change this monotonous routine, by striving to attain our goals. If and when we set goals for ourselves and continue to actively work towards them, then we will soon gain that true, liberating lifestyle we've all been dreaming of. So press on, keep pushing, keep going, keep moving forward...even when you don't "feel like it". Continuous Blessings! - K.R. Brumfield

Things aren't always as bad as they appear to be. The grass only "appears" to be greener on the other side. Take a closer look. Cherish and appreciate what you already have. - K.R. Brumfield Life is a journey.  Enjoy the scenery!

Movie Review: "The Croods"

So last weekend, me and the family went to check out "The Croods". It's a family-oriented movie full of animation, action, and adventure. I thought it was the modern-day Flintstones. It was great! I give this movie 5 stars across the board. Here's how I rated it: Attention - Grabs & Holds my attention (5 Stars) Storyline - Great storyline/Well organized (5 stars) Performance - Actors' roles (5 stars) Setting/Graphics - Great Location/Fits storyline/3D, 4D, or Great Animation (5 stars) Sound/Picture Quality - Film was produced without any sound or picture flaws (5 stars)         *  1 Star = Bad/Poor (would not recommend) ***** 5 Stars = Good/Excellent (Highly recommended) Without giving away too much of the movie, here's my overall review: Nicolas Cage did a great job playing the role of the father (Grug), head of his family. He played the role of an over-protective father with fear issues. He wasn't a fan of change. In fact, he d
