Movie Review: "The Croods"

So last weekend, me and the family went to check out "The Croods". It's a family-oriented movie full of animation, action, and adventure. I thought it was the modern-day Flintstones. It was great!

I give this movie 5 stars across the board. Here's how I rated it:

  • Attention - Grabs & Holds my attention (5 Stars)
  • Storyline - Great storyline/Well organized (5 stars)
  • Performance - Actors' roles (5 stars)
  • Setting/Graphics - Great Location/Fits storyline/3D, 4D, or Great Animation (5 stars)
  • Sound/Picture Quality - Film was produced without any sound or picture flaws (5 stars)
        *  1 Star = Bad/Poor (would not recommend)
***** 5 Stars = Good/Excellent (Highly recommended)

Without giving away too much of the movie, here's my overall review:

Nicolas Cage did a great job playing the role of the father (Grug), head of his family. He played the role of an over-protective father with fear issues. He wasn't a fan of change. In fact, he discouraged his family from venturing out to learn new things.

When Grug's daughter, Eep, played by Emma Stone, tried to do the exact opposite, he'd immediately scold her for disobedience. Eep was a brave, courageous, girl. She hated being confined to the cave all the time, and just wanted to see what else was out there. I admired her strength and courage.

The graphics and animation of this film was amazingly beautiful. The colors of the forest embarked upon were so vibrant! It was full of bright green, exotic birds, blues, pinks, and purples. The flowers just jumped out at me, they were so pretty!

Then along came this guy named Guy. He appeared to be around the same age as Eep. She quickly took an interest in him, as he was different. He possessed skills that Eep and her family had never seen before.

Isn't that ironic? All it takes is one person or event to pique curiosity and spark change. Nothing can remain the same. Even life itself constantly changes.

The Croods had no choice but to change...if they wanted to survive. When their way of living was compromised, they had to follow Guy and trust his instincts to guide them. Grug had to swallow his pride and  allow Guy to help his family.

So, I believe the biggest message or lesson that viewers will walk away with from this movie is how NOT to live in fear and how to embrace change.

Not only did the kids enjoy this movie, but so did the adults. There was a scene in the movie that brought a few to tears. So, if you enjoy "survival of the fittest", action-packed, animated films, then this is the film for you and your family. Go check it out! I give this one 5 STARS.
